The month of Movember is here again and the sweet time when you can get away with not shaving (the guys at least) is upon us. In order to get this pass however, you have to help spread awareness towards testicular cancer, prostate cancer and other men-health issues.

As a socially-engaged company, we are strongly concerned about the health of men worldwide. That is why we are participating fully in the Movember activities.

Inspired by the Movember Foundation, which helps raise awareness and funds for the lives of men affected by cancer and mental health problems, we are having a competition to see who has the most abundant and manliest moustache of the Mo Bros at WebHostFace. And the best part is that our online community gets to judge. So be sure to check our photos and give us your vote with a #facemoustache hashtag, share, retweet, or comment till December 1, 2014 (closing date). The winner gets to represent WebHostFace’s men in front of all authorities in the Universe and beyond until next year – so be careful who you vote for.

WebHostFace 2014 Movember Photo Contest

We are also raising funds to donate to the Movember Foundation which is working to improve the lives of men affected by testicular cancer, prostate cancer and men-health issues.

For those of us not shaving this month, here are some tips on how to look after your facial hair, (until you shave it off in December, that is):

1.      Wash and shampoo your moustache and beard regularly, just like your hair. A mild shampoo will be more gentle on your skin.

2.      You may use a conditioner on your beard but don’t expect amazing results, the hair on your face is more rough than the one on your head because of all the shaving, but it will still make your beard feel softer. Rinse the conditioner thoroughly.

3.      Blow-drying is not really recommended as it can be harsh on your skin. Gently pat and wipe your beard dry with a towel.

4.      To remove tangles,  comb your moustache and beard with a wide-toothed comb. You can finish up by using a brush if you want a sleeker result.

Good luck to all of our hairy monsters!

Update: Radoslav gets the FIRST place for a great stache-effort!

The end of September came again and with it – our hometown’s Charity Week with all its wonderful events and causes. Just like last year, WebHostFace gladly contributed to the cause and yet again, the rubber duck race across the river was the most awaited event by adults and children alike. This time around, the collected funds from the race are to be invested in the Children’s Railway – a remarkable ride located on one of our hills which goes on short trips around interesting sights for the youngest. Its last stop should be rebuilt with added lighting and security cameras, reviving this joy ride from the dust and bringing fond memories from our generation when the railway tours were in full steam.

2014 was a little erratic in terms of climate changes. The winter was very warm and the summer had frequent downpours which made every day a weather surprise. These caprices of Mother Nature unfortunately affected the rubber duck race and it was delayed for a week because of bad weather. Going there the following week we were met by discouraging news – the event would happen but without the actual race, because the river levels were too high to control the little yellow rubber friends. Utterly disappointing.

The organizers of the charity week still made their best to turn the event into an entertaining afternoon for all who came and I have to say they did a pretty good job at that, considering the main event was stripped away. The sun was still shining and happy people were still arriving with their families so why not make the best of it, right? And this is exactly what we did! The sponsors had provided the kids with a huge inflatable castle and there were tables for arts&crafts where people from all ages were creating and decorating post cards for charity. There was a cheerful atmosphere, children and pets running around, parents trying to keep up with their toddlers and lots of laughs.

WebHostFace @ Rubber Duck Race

Even though the rubber ducks did not make their annual river swim, they were still invited to the party too. Anyone could purchase one and they got them on spot. Each duck came with its own race number and those numbers were later entered in a big raffle. I am a strong believer of positive attitude and how it can affect all your ventures and bring them to a positive result. Well, my believes were contagious and the draw was very favorable for our team. We managed to snatch a few gift bags as Lady Luck was firmly resting on our shoulders.

At the end of the day, race or no race, we all had some fun, the cause was supported and the children enjoyed every minute of it…even the scary looking man in a bunny suit (imagine the Donnie Darko rabbit in a little brighter mood) was a hit. At least they gave me another year to design the perfectly aerodynamic duck and blow away the competition. Now, who can tell me where to find a fingernail-sized rocket engine and stuff it in a rubber duck? Anyone?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve seen tons of examples of the Ice Bucket Challenge. Love it or hate on it, there are many lessons to be learned from the viral success of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

The ALS Association has declared that they’ve received $115 million in donations since July 29, 2014compared to $2.1 million during the same period last year, plus they’ve made it from 700,000 new donors. That’s an amazing increase in numbers.

But how did this all start?

The origins of the idea of dumping cold water on one’s head to raise money for charity are unclear and have been attributed to multiple sources. According to the ALSA.org the Ice Bucket Challenge formerly existed in the sporting world and has been used for other causes in the past, but it was the people impacted by the disease who really made things go viral for ALS in mid-July.

What is the main idea of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge?

The challenge with a bucket of ice water is intended to support the Association to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, a neurodegenerative disease with various causes. It is characterized by muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle atrophy, difficulty in speaking (dysarthria), swallowing (dysphagia), and breathing (dyspnea). ALS is the most common of the five motor neuron diseases. It’s wider-spread attention started in the USA and in particular in Boston after the emergence of an Internet video made by former athlete, diagnosed with ALS Pete Frates.

What are the rules?

In August 2014, the challenge went viral online and became commonly known as the “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge”. The participant has to fill a bucket full of ice and water, then state who summoned him to do the challenge and summon three other individuals of his choice to take part in it. He then dumps the bucket of ice and water onto himself.

According to conventional rules whoever receives such a challenge has 24 hours to join the campaign to capture and upload video a to the Internet. In addition to that he should donate $ 10 to the Association to fight ALS. Those who refuse the challenge, must make a donation of $ 100.

Who took the challenge?

Many celebrities, athletes and business moguls have taken part in the challenge, including Steven Spielberg, Mark Zuckerberg, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, James Franco, Ben Affleck, Oprah Winfrey among many other well-known personalities and members of the general public. George Bush who was flooded with a bucket of cold water by his wife, nominated Bill Clinton. Hundreds of celebrities joined this refreshing procedure and nominated who will be next.

After the Ice Bucket Challenge went viral on social media, public awareness and charitable donations for ALS soared. On August 18, 2014, the ALS Association announced that it had received $15.6 million in donations compared to $1.8 million during the same time period (July 29 to August 18) in the previous year. These donations came from both existing donors and 307,598 new donors to the Association

WebHostFace got challenged, how about you?

On August 22, our very own CEO Valentin Sharlanov and the office crew joined the challenge to raise awareness and help spread the word about the ALS Desease.

Hi, my name is Valentin Sharlanov, the CEO of WebHostFace and these are some of our tech guys. I nominate for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge my ex employer Tenko Nikolov from SiteGround, Arvand Sabetian from Arvixe, Zak Boca and Dan Ushman from SingleHop. Few years ago when WebHostFace was established, I was inspired and challenged by your knowledge, professionalism and huge success. Now I would like to challenge you back for a noble cause. Guys you have 24 hours and don’t forget to donate as well.

The funny part is that we actually had to do it twice, since I personally failed to shoot the first try. 🙂

Is there any end date for the challenge?

Absolutely not. The Ice Bucket Challenge started organically by individuals with the disease. So as long as people all over the worlds keep participating, the challenge will continue.

At the end, I would like to make a note: a lot of people take on this challenge from their friends and forget to remind others who participate to donate. Some of them might not even know why they’re doing it at all – except that their friends did it, probably just for fun and then tagged them in their videos on Facebook .

And while that is still beneficial to the cause, please try to remind others to either read these true stories or go to ALSA.org to donate. Or do both, just like we did. Even if you dump ice on your head and post the video over the Internet!

You can help by donating here: http://www.alsa.org/fight-als/ice-bucket-challenge.html

Leave a comment below to let us know about your experience with the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. So, how about you? Have you been challenged? Did you donate, do the bucket, or both?

Today’s a very special day! We celebrate  1 year of launching the new brand on the market – WebHostFace. It`s been a crazy, wonderful year and as usual I have lots to tell you about it.

So, we never really had a plan. We had a HUGE plan. We had full hearts, empty wallets…. and a great desire for success. We have done all of this without any form of funding or sponsorship. Without any investor angels or sugar daddies. It began as a youthfully ambitious response to an industry and a world that seemed determined to swipe the spring from our steps.

And after the huge success of the first brand we launched, it was about time to step forward and go for the launch of a new product – WebHostFace. Having years of experience in other large webhosting companies brought us to the idea of creating a new and different hosting provider which tends to approach all hosting matters in a original way, more favorable for the customers. Thus, we gave the people something different, a really good product with exceptional vision and user friendly management options. On paper, it might sound like we’ve taken our story straight from the pages of Entrepreneur Magazine. We combined both our previous expertise, business knowledge of other brands and showed our face to the world with a new product. It was hard, it was fun, it was worth it!

One Year has passed. Oh, what a year! Some gained weight, others quit smoking, there were still those who found love and yet others still looking for it. A lot of things happened, really. We laughed together a lot, we missed those who left us, we welcomed the new ones. We learned from our mistakes, we learned from each other. Even though I was not here from the very first day of the company foundation, marching next to Valentin and Anna, I was really happy to share all of the emotions of the first interviews, logo design contests, website creation and seeing the first customers coming. I will always be proud and happy to have “Service always comes with a smiling face” come to my mind and see the evidence of it every day.

There are so many happy moments we spent together. Most of us, being real friends in real life, too, enjoyed the opportunity to spend even more time together.

When we first started we had nothing but our ideas, faith and excessive courage that we will be able to do it. There were those who told us – It’s impossible! There were those days which made us think that the obstacles were impassable. Today, a year later, with hundreds of followers, sprawling community, true blog readers and with the trust and love of our customers – real friends from all over the world, we can prove that everything is possible. All you have to do is trust yourself! And if you find that this is not enough, then add a huge deal of hard work and it will happen.

From the day we registered our domain name on 4th March 2013 till now, we have managed to launch our website, blog and KnowledgeBase, offer custom Customer area and unique customer experience order, three different server locations, lots of custom software products and endless customizations all over our system. We managed to enter position 7 for Customers Choice Awards in the 2013 HostReview annual edition and we cannot hide that we are extremely proud of it.

We are young, but we definitely know our business! One year on, we are still as passionate as ever about our cause and cannot thank our creative community enough for their continual encouragement and support. Thank you for the trust!

We are pleased with our success to date, but we are not satisfied. We want to give you more and more. So why not start from today?!

No-shave November is almost over and we are ready to share our experiences of our office laziness marathon. We wanted to start a tradition and see who can go through the whole month the longest without shaving, after all, it’s the only time of the year men can get away with no shaving, right?

Since most of our staff are men, we decided that Movember will not only lighten the mood but it will also be a fun way to raise awareness about prostate cancer, as well as other cancers associated with men. And we hope that this will encourage more men to go and get themselves checked up like we did.

As the popularity of Movember grows, so does the creativity of everyone participating. From simple mustaches to more extravagant styles of facial hair, you can see it all, and it makes us more than happy to know that more and more people are joining the Movember community every year. I personally saw lots of women with fake beards online supporting it and this made my heart skip a beat.

We had some nice styles in the office, too, but not everyone managed to go through the whole month without shaving. Nevertheless, you can see some pictures of the people who persevered and decide for yourself. Not everyone can be winners, after all.

Movember @ WebHostFace

If you want to be an all-around awesome member of the Movember club, I can give you some guidelines to follow for next year and if you like maybe for every year afterwards.

  1. Get rid of everything that can even remotely remind you of shaving. ‘Out of sight, out of mind’ the old people say and they are right. This can help you go through it easily, especially when the itchiness commences. Which brings us to my second point.

  2. You should do everything in your power to withstand the scratching and irritation for at least a couple of days until it subsides. Just keep reminding yourself you are doing it for the right cause and think of something else.

  3. Pay no attention to criticism. Even as the month approaches its end and you have probably gotten more and more scruffier, remember that you are looking cool and you are doing something incredible for the greater good.

  4. Make it a contest by convincing your best buds to not shave, too, and have some fun taking pictures of your beards, comparing them and hosting an award ceremony. Make sure you have awards for everyone like: Coolest beard, Best trim and so on. A little competition never heard anybody.

  5. When the month is gone and you are almost ready to shave everything off, you can try some crazy stuff like braiding or cutting your facial hair in bizarre shapes. When else are u going to have the chance to experiment with such long a beard or mustache? No one needs to see, but you, and you can shave it all after that. Come one, I know you want to.

Till next year!

The skeletons are out tonight,

They march about the street,

With bony bodies, bony heads,

And bony hands and feet….

…not only that but a nurse, a witch, a cheeky cop and The Devil himself visited our office on Halloween.

It was a fright night to remember, as things got spooky in the WebHostFace workplace. Juggling between our daily tasks and the commotion surrounding the set-ups for our company party, we managed to mix useful and fun and it was a much needed experience indeed. Seeing someone who responds to a customer email, while switching into a plumber outfit wasn’t at all uncommon and come nightfall, the office was already crawling with mischievous spirits, enjoying their night of the year. We already let you in on a sneak peek earlier this week on some party ideas we had in mind, with our Halloween infographic.

Surviving Halloween is a vital skill every grown-up should pick up eventually no matter the walk of life. That is why we here at WebHostFace have devised the ultimate scheme and prepared a fool-proof survival kit for the coming Halloween.

  1. In order to make everything more fun and engaging for all of us, we decided to go with the time-proven idea to arrange a little costume contest. And being the daring type that we are, and just for the love of adventure, we hid all the candy for Halloween, so that we can organize a scavenger hunt in costumes on the big day. ‘How cool a creepy thematic scavenger hunt can be?’, you may ask. Just wait for the pictures and you’ll know…
  2. Too many pumpkins never hurt no one, except the pumpkins, I guess. We use them for decoration, for making some awesome desserts or just to have fun by organizing some more contests, yet again. What can we say, we like to get creative.
  3. Spookier is always better, (fake) spider webs are the perfect decoration this time of the year, except for pumpkins perhaps. And you won’t believe how easy it is to arrange for our boss to stumble into one of them ‘accidentally’ (wink), just to lighten the mood, because not taking things seriously is the main point of these instructions.
  4. As said above pulling pranks on fellow co-workers or even our boss is the thing during Halloween. It promotes bonding and it’s fun, just don’t tell anyone I came up with this idea… 😉
  5. Spooky Halloween music in the office? Nothing can go wrong with that, it gets us in the holiday mood faster and surer, if you don’t mind feeling a little bit apprehensive when going back home alone in the evening. 🙂
  6. Yet another amazing idea we came up with is to gather used paper to create decorations like paper bats or spiders. After all, think about nature while having fun is extremely rewarding.
  7. We are not afraid to pull all stops and just create the ultimate Halloween experience by organizing thematic Halloween breakfasts or lunches during work hours, we even set whole menus with different types of holiday food to be served on the days before and on Halloween itself…

Remember to not take everything so closely to heart and be more open-minded because Halloween is a holiday for mystery, spooks and pranks. And it goes all so well with candy… mmmm

Halloween Office Spirit

Hello Friends,

The trees may be shedding their leaves, but we still sigh with yearnings for the recently lost summer.  The busy bees in WebHostFace didn’t need more than a few shy rays of light to bright the sky and decided it’s time to go out. Luckily, it was also the annual Charity Week here, so we managed to mix the fun moments outside with a little help for the noble causes that were supported. And believe me, there were many – from repairs in children homes to equipment for an eye surgery clinic, each of those causes were inspiring and significant and this put us right into that mood easily.

We chose an event, where we thought we would meet the most interesting people and have the best time. And there was one just for us – Rubber Duck River Race. We were all kids not so long ago so it was the perfect occasion to have a few more moments from that precious childhood. As it later turned out we could not have made a better choice – nice weather, lots of playful children running around like in a pinball machine and their parents trying to keep up – it was a great set up for a sunny afternoon in the end of dismal September. We quickly got into the spirit and soon had our hands around our proud WebHostFace Race Horse… pardon, Race Duck.

WebHostFace team at the Rubber Duck Race

There were some delays and technical issues but no one seemed to care – everyone was here with friends and family and they were just enjoying themselves. It was really nice seeing all those happy faces and contagious children smiles and before we knew it, the ducks were ready to go!

Cranes throwing rubber ducks

Two huge cranes were the platform for the take-off of the rubber flock and after the siren sounded they were all flying (well not exactly flying, more like falling) under the bridge. The river soon turned yellow and the race became more and more intense – change of leaders, emergency pit stops (in the nearby bushes),  few rubber soldiers even drowned…or at least it looked like it 🙂 The encouraging shouts made the ducks show us their best and indeed they delivered – some of our beaked friends were so determined that they broke the safety net at the finish line and continued their sail in the unknown. We saluted in their honor and bid them farewell.

River Rubber Ducky Derby

After a few hours in the soft autumn sun and over 500 ducks successfully getting to their destination, the children seemed tired (boy, was that a relief for their parents).

Rubber Duck Race fun

We left the event with a wonderful mood and  promised ourselves that this experience would be the first of many…
